Nationals - 25-26 September 2010
Saturday 25 Sept - 200m & 1000m
On Friday, 41 members of Exe-Calibre stacked their cars/camper vans with waterproofs, many layers of clothing, blankets and enough carbohydrate-laden food to fuel a small army! Some more hardy souls also packed tents and sleeping bags, while other (more sensible) paddlers took the infinitely more comfortable option of a hotel bed for the two nights.
Worcester - 22 August 2010
Sunday 22nd August saw Exe-Calibre taking TWO crews to the 7th league event of the season. About a dozen happy campers pitched in at the Mill House campsite, a few less hardy souls booked into B & B's, and the remainder made the trip up in the morning. Regardless of their transportation or accommodation arrangements these paddlers were determined to sew up the Standard League with a great performance.
Milton Keynes - 25 July 2010
The sixth race event of the season saw a bunch of excited Exe-Calibites arriving at Caldecotte Lake determined to continue Exe-Calibre's onslaught of the Standard League.
Exeter - 11 July 2010
Months of planning, training and recruiting hard paid off on Sunday 11th July with what has to be one of the most successful race events held at Exeter!
Preston - 13 June 2010
The fourth BDA event of the 2010 season took Exe-Calibre back up the M5/M6, past Liverpool and all the way up north to Preston. Having never raced at Preston before, rumours about emergency stops, blue-green algae and a shallow course abounded. Reality was somewhat better, and armed with a big bottle of hand sanitiser to defeat the horrible northern bugs, we set out to continue our quest for maximum points for 200m and 500m.
Nottingham - 16 May 2010
Saturday 15th May saw a convoy of Exe-Calibites making the trip to Nottingham. Firstly, a band of happy campers arrived at the water sports centre campsite, quickly erected their tents and then basked in glorious sunshine until the rest of the posse arrived to complete the Excali-camp. A sociable dinner at a local pub allowed all left paddlers to eat pudding, while righties had to abstain - a rather pleasant way (for the lefties) to try and sort out the boat balance issues of our always right-heavy crew!
Liverpool - 2 May 2010
After the excitement of the first BDA event in London, Exe-Calibre had high expectations for the second event of the year in Liverpool. 27 people put their names down to race and after a tough selection process (and some frantic last minute re-shuffling of the crew) a brave bunch of 21 Exe-Calibites headed up to Liverpool to enjoy the strong northerly winds to be found on Marinas Wharf.
London - 17 April 2010
The race season for Exe-Calibre started back in October when we went back to basics to look at the three T's; Technique, Timing and Torture. We built on these over the dark winter nights through snow, freezing rivers and membership drives to be prepared for the first BDA League event of the year at London Albert Docks.
