Worcester - 26 August 2012

First, a HUGE well done to Exe-Calibre Mixed and Exe-Calibre Blades (10-man) who paddled hard for our club this Sunday in Worcester.  The sun shone and Exe-Calibre brought home some well-needed National League points.

Our Exe-Calibre 10-man was praised and cheered on by all the other teams and they improved their times over the day.  They rose to the challenge fantastically, ably helmed by Mike and drummed by Chris.  Great effort, commitment and a credit to Exe-Calibre.  Well done Jo, Lorna, Phil, James, Maureen, Rhiannon, Laura and to one of our newest paddlers Sarah Ward (she'd only been to two training sessions!).

Exe-Calibre Mixed raced extremely well in the 500m, finishing just a smidgeon (0.25 secs) behind arch-rivals Amathus in the Cup Major Final - bagging a lovely 15 points to add to our National League total.

The tug-of-boat competition was scrapped, which was probably a good thing! Exe-Calibre of course, would have won it, if it had gone ahead!  Exe-Calibre and Amanthus put aside rivalries to race a combined Ladies 200m - taking first place with style, and winning a lovely Worcester Pear!

The newly invigorated National League meant that Worcester DBC organised a 1500m City Loop, which was brilliant fun and enjoyed by all our Exe-Calibre racers.  Exe-Calibre Mixed qualified comfortably for the Cup Final and were just pipped by Worcester Dragons (by another measly 0.2 secs) into third place.  No prizes for guessing who won.  The best performance of the day came from Exe-Calibre Blades, who improved their 1500m time by a MASSIVE 9 seconds in their Plate Final. Awesome!!

So, once again, well done to all.  A great days racing and lots of fun (and a bit of sunshine for once!).
